Animated espionage venture, Spies In Disguise has signed The Fresh Prince’s Will Smith and Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Tom Holland.
Based on the short film, Pigeon: Impossible, the animated feature will have strong ties to its source material. Pigeon: Impossible is about a pigeon who gets stuck inside a nuclear briefcase, and, well, things go downhill from there. The feature film should bring more to the table in terms of storytelling and details.
A Variety exclusive has revealed that both Will Smith and Tom Holland will lend their voices to the film, to be produced by 20th Century Fox’s Animation department, as part of Fox’s ongoing initiative to increase their animation output. The Peanuts Movie’s director Nick Bruno will helm the project.
In the film, Smith will play Lance Sterling, a cocky super spy (not at all like Smith’s MiB character) who is turned into a pigeon by Holland’s inventor Walter Beckett (not at all like Holland’s Peter Parker). The pair then team up with a gang of real pigeons and a group of tech geniuses to try and stop a Bond-like villain, in an adventure that’s been described as “21 Jump Street meets Skyfall” by the filmmakers.
Spies In Disguise is set for release in January, 2019.
