Comic Con International: San Diego 2017 is in full swing and the bulletins are coming in hard and fast.
A particularly interesting reveal has been that of Thanos’ Black Order, or ‘Children of Thanos‘ as they have also been called. Having first appeared in New Avengers #8, the creations of Jonathan Hickman, Jerome Opeña, and Jim Cheung, this team, hailing from the Black Quadrant, consisted of leader Corvus Glaive, and his accompanying teammates Black Swan, Ebony Maw, Supergiant, Proxima Midnight, and Black Dwarf. However, the reveal of Thanos’ team in statue form has shown that this team of six, has become a team of four in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.
These statues (below) show Thanos front and center, the leader we have been eagerly awaiting (minus the Infinity Gauntlet and helmet we have become accustomed to seeing him in). Then, from left to right, we have Corvus Glaive, decked out in armor complete with his iconic blade; fellow team member (and Glaive’s wife in the comics) Proxima Midnight in her classic costume, though with a more understated headpiece; then almost skeletal, lean and mean, noseless baddie Ebony Maw – and finally, a character named ‘Cull Obsidian‘, who looks suspiciously like original member Black Dwarf, though he is now taller than Thanos, and has swapped his classic battle-axe for two sword-like weapons.
The truly exciting part of this reveal is that it means that the Avengers are calling in everyone they have on side – every Avenger, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Winter Soldier, Doctor Strange, and many more – but Thanos, in all his ‘Mad Titan‘ status has a team of only four to aide him, which must mean that they are going to pack quite the punch in this film and will clearly be a force to be reckoned with.
And though there has been much speculation and discussion about the D23 teaser trailer for Infinity War, there has been no official date for the trailer’s release to the public, with Director Joe Russo stating, when asked in an interview, that the trailer will be with us “Soon”. However, we at Machinima SBOC have done a little research on the past Avengers teasers, and both Avengers Assemble and Age of Ultron released their teaser in October, with a full trailer coming early the following year, so logic would dictate that October will be the time that the Russo Brothers will share the Avengers: Infinity War teaser with us.
For now, however, we wait (very eagerly) for a glimpse of Thanos and his team, and to see what else SDCC has in store for us!
