Cable takes centre stage in the newest Deadpool 2 trailer, released by Fox.
“I was born into war, bred into it,” says Josh Brolin’s villain. “People think they understand pain, but they have no concept of it.”
We’re then treated to some angsty shots of Cable, in the rain, in the dark, cocking weapons and pointing guns.
It’s here that Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool breaks the fourth wall in order to complain about the film’s unfinished visual effects. The exclusion of the Cable’s metal arm leads to the first jab of the trailer, at Justice League’s recent problems with Henry Cavill’s facial hair, as Reynolds complains “Why are the visual effects not done? It’s a metal arm! It’s not like we’re trying to remove a moustache!”
In order to buy visual effects guy “Dale” some time, Deadpool decides to distract us with a toy recreation of the battle between him and Cable.
“Ah, f**k it, I’ll do it myself!” he announces, in clear reference to Brolin’s Thanos, who says almost exactly the same thing in the post-credits scene of Avengers: Age of Ultron, after his minions have failed to bring him any of the Infinity Stones.
We then get to see Deadpool make a Cable action figure fight Sheriff Deadpool (the hero’s action figure, dressed as Woody from Toy Story) on a cityscape made of cardboard. During the “fight” Reynolds takes his second at Brolin’s Avengers villain, and his quest for Infinity Stones, yelling “Zip it, Cable! I’ve got the stones to help you” – before launching a crotch-first attack.
Finally, we get what we’ve all been waiting for, some real movie footage from the upcoming sequel, showcasing newbies Cable and Domino, in the first extended live-action look we’ve had at the Brolin and Zazie Beetz as the mutants. Along with this are familiar faces from the first film, and some thrilling, fast-paced action shots.
The excitement is real.
Deadpool 2 is slated for released on May 18th.
