First Look At ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ Shows Raptor Baby

Colin Trevorrow has given fans our first look at Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, featuring the world’s most adorable baby raptor. And Chris Pratt, which is also good.

The first trailer for Fallen Kingdom is on the horizon (slated to begin screening in US theatres with select versions of The Last Jedi next month) and as an early treat – or a Thanksgiving gift – Colin Trevorrow unveiled some of the first footage from the film, in the form of a short clip.

Fallen Kingdom’s plot has been kept under-wraps until the trailer’s launch, however we do know that the film picks up sometime in the aftermath of Jurassic World. Chris Pratt will obviously be returning, alongside Bryce Dallas Howard, in this sequel which Trevorrow cowrote, and produced, but this time did not direct, instead handing the job over to J.A. Bayona of A Monster Calls.

The supporting cast for Fallen Kingdom will bring many newcomers to the Jurassic Park/World franchise, along with familiar faces – most notably, Jeff Goldblum returning to the role of eccentric scientist Ian Malcolm.

Trevorrow posted the footage to his Twitter account, along with the message: “From our Jurassic family to yours.”

The clip is only a few seconds long, showing Pratt as Owen Grady, playing with a young velociraptor, not unlike the ones he raised and trained in Jurassic World. The relationship between Owen and the velociraptors was a key part of the first movie, so it’s only natural that they should continue this in the sequel. This footage is unpolished, and so doesn’t seem like something that has been lifted from the trailer, so perhaps the clip was made for this promotional purpose only – or perhaps this features in the film as some kind of recording of Owen’s early training of the raptors.

Trevorrow has assured audiences that Fallen Kingdom will be better than Jurassic World, due in no small part to Bayona’s involvement as director. Bayona has often demonstrated a gift for combining rich human stories with genre entertainment, from the natural disaster terror of The Impossible, to supernatural horror The Orphanage, and the imaginative exploration of real-world fears in A Monster Calls.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is set for release on June 8th, 2018.
