Harley Quinn will be animated once more!
Everybody’s favourite misunderstood cartoon clown is returning to her roots. DC Entertainment have ordered 26 episodes of an adult action-comedy series produced by Powerless executives, Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker, and starring The Clown Princess of Crime, as she leaves The Joker to become the “queenpin” of crime in Gotham with some help from Poison Ivy (Harley’s other long term love interest,) and criminal cohorts old and new.
Harley Quinn’s new cartoon is the third series commissioned by Warner Bros for the upcoming DC streaming service after Titans (Developed by Geoff Johns, Akiva Goldsman, and CW-verse producers Greg Berlanti and Sara Schecter,) and the return of the much loved Young Justice.
Harley Quinn started out as an animated character on Paul Dini’s legendary Batman: The Animated Series as a twisted love interest for The Joker, but has gone a long way in the past twenty-five years from a mistreated sidekick to one of the most well loved anti-heroes in comics, to being the breakout star of Suicide Squad with Margot Robbie in the black and red clown make up.
It’ll be nice to see Harley return to her classic animated form, although I’m sure there will be an endless, circular debate over the proper voice actor to play her. We’ll wait with baited breath. Whether or not the DC streaming service is worth the subscription is another debate entirely, but I can feel my wallet getting lighter already!
No release dates for Harley Quinn or the DC streaming service have been announced yet.
