The Hulk is a character that has been somewhat pushed aside in the MCU, after the less-than-successful past film ventures and due to legal complications, he’s probably not getting a standalone in the future. However, this is Marvel. And according to Mark Ruffalo, they’ve found a way around this.
In an interview with CinemaBlend, Ruffalo, who has been playing the Hulk since Avengers Assemble, revealed that there is essentially going to be a Hulk movie split between three upcoming MCU films. The actor explained that he and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige have worked out a trilogy of sorts for Bruce Banner. Given he cannot have a standalone movie, the Hulk’s story will be told through Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and the as-yet untitled Avengers 4.
“So basically, Kevin [Feige] pulled me aside before this, and said, “If you were gonna do a… if we were going to do a standalone Hulk movie, what would it be?” And I said, “I think it should be this, this, this, and this and this, and ends up like this.” And he’s like, “I love that. Why don’t we do that in the next three movies, starting with Thor 3 and then we go into Avengers 3 and 4.” And I was like, “That sounds great!” And so we are at the beginning of this arc.”
We last saw the Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron, flying away from the team. How he has reached the gladiator planet Sakaar, and what has happened in the meantime will probably be the focus of the first part of his trilogy in the upcoming Thor movie.
Thor: Ragnarok is released on October 24th in the UK, and November 3rd in the US.
