Capcom on Why Monster Hunter World is not on the Nintendo Switch The publisher focused entirely on PS4 and Xbox One consoles

Monster Hunter World releases later this week on PS4 and Xbox One but many have been hungry for a possible Switch version. Yesterday, Capcom explained why the game isn’t on the console citing the game’s long development cycle as a main reason.

Speaking in an interview with IGN game directors Kaname Fujioka and Yuya Tokuda stated;

“We don’t have any plans for the Switch at the moment. Part of the reason is that the title has been in development for almost four years.” they added;

“At the time we had to commit to our hardware choices, we decided on using the most powerful current generation consoles available at the time, which was PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. So [the decision was made] before the Switch was even announced or on sale.”

“It’s also because for every title we decide what the best fit for hardware is for the concept. We don’t just look at everything. It’s more like ‘if we want to achieve this kind of game concept, where’s the best place to achieve that?’ and for this title, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were the best fit for us.”

A Nintendo Switch version seems unlikely then, which is a shame due to the fact that Monster Hunter has usually been synonymous with handheld play.The series has also had a direct lineage on Nintendo consoles with titles releasing on the DS, wii and 3DS systems. Capcom have said previously that while there are no plans for Monster Hunter on Switch they were preparing more titles for the portable  home consoles.

Monster Hunter World releases January 26 on PS4 and Xbox One. The game looks to be a new direction for the series, with more Westernised visuals and it being marketed as a jumping on point for newcomers.
