If you thought the first trailer Hulu’s Castle Rock series was packed full of Stephen King references, this latest trailer will blow that one out of the water. In this all-star Super Bowl spot for Castle Rock’s summer premiere, we return to Shawshank – arguably one of King’s most iconic settings.
Hulu released a look at the new trailer (set to air during the weekend’s Super Bowl game) though this brief spot only really mentions the show’s summer premiere. In the footage, we see Henry Deaver (André Holland) making a return trip to Shawshank Penitentiary in order to visit Bill Skarsgård in his role of mysterious inmate. We also see a number of strange and crazy masks, as well as out first look at Lost’s Terry O’Quinn in the series.
The rest of the cast includes Scott Glenn (Daredevil) as Sheriff Alan Pangborn, Melanie Lynskey (Togetherness) as Molly Strand, Sissy Spacek (Carrie) as Ruth Deaver, estranged mother of Henry (Holland), and Jane Levy (Suburgatory) as Jackie “the death-obsessed and self-appointed historian of Castle Rock.”
Sam Shaw and Dusty Thomason helm the J.J. Abrams-produced project, which Warner Bros. has described as:
“A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.”
