Vin Diesel in talks to Star in Bloodshot Movie Valiant’s superhero could be running on Diesel…

Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel is reportedly in talks to star in Sony’s Bloodshot movie, based on the Valiant comicbook. The production company has had its sights set on launching a shared universe around Valiant’s 2,000 superhero characters.

The studio revealed back in 2016 that they would kick off their Valiant Universe with an adaptation of Harbinger, with the character of Bloodshot set to receive an introduction in Harbinger, before getting his own solo movie.

Bloodshot first appeared back in 1992, created by Kevin VanHook and Yvel Guichet. A former solider, Bloodshot possesses powers of regeneration and shape-shifting through nano-machines in his bloodstream. He also has superhuman strength and the ability to interface with machines through his thoughts, and after a number of mind-wipes, Bloodshot has lost his memories, and so sets out to recover his true identity.

Fast and Furious producer Neal Moritz will produce Bloodshot, which will no doubt give Diesel the inside track to scoring the lead role. Arrival writer Eric Heisser is set to pen the script, with Blur Studio’s Visual FX artist Dave Wilson directing. With the success of movies like Logan and Deadpool, it is said that Wilson is looking to deliver an R-rated take on Bloodshot.

This project has already gone through a number of changes over the years – as early as 2010, Kingsman’s Matthew Vaughn was attached to direct. Then, in 2015, John Wick director David Leitch and Chad Stahelski stepped into the role. Since May last year, a shortlist of potential leads has been making the rounds, which including the likes of Oscar Isaac, James McAvoy, Jake Gyllenhaal, Nicholas Hoult, Mark Wahlberg and Jared Leto – so it’s safe to say they didn’t have a ‘type’ in mind.

Sony are way behind when it comes to superhero universes, however they have been adamant that their Valiant movie franchise will go ahead. Given the studio’s fairly weak record when it comes to franchise films (see: Ghostbusters), many remain sceptical about this movie universe amounting to anything more than talk.

More on Bloodshot when we have it.
