Over the past few months, we’ve seen a few promotional images from the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix film, from director Simon Kinberg, but a new set photo has teased the team’s newest costumes.
The photo sees the main cast – Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, along with a team of astronauts. The costumes themselves are reminiscent of Frank Quitely’s designs from his and Grant Morrisons’ New X-Men run. What is nice about the new suits, is they provide an image of a more united team, and a classic X-Men style:

At the beginning of Dark Phoenix, the X-Men are tasked with rescuing a team of astronauts in the first of many space adventures for Marvel’s mutant team. On their return from space, the team encounters serious complications, which sees Jean tap into an unknown power to save them all – this power, is the Phoenix Force. From the photos we have already seen, it’s clear that this will be seen in the new film.
Where the story will go from here is unclear, but the alien race known as the Sh’iar are rumoured to be playing a part, along with an alien character played by Jessica Chastain. However, we’ll have to wait until the first trailer is released to really get a good picture of how Kinberg is planning to adapt one of the most iconic X-Men stories ever published.
